Lytton Park

Lytton Park

One of the most prestigious Toronto neighbourhoods is Lytton Park, located in north Toronto. The neighbourhood is known for its tranquil charm, yet there is expedient access to subway and bus transportation. The area wraps around the green tranquil retreat of ‘Lytton Park’.

Originally, Lytton Park was mostly farmland, with the exception of a limited number of noteworthy country estates, lying North of Toronto. In 1886, the Metropolitan Street Railway decided to service this small area. A few of the homes that were built in the 1890s and early 1900s have maintained their original architectural facade. After 1912, many more homes, schools, churches and parks were developed and the area became a recognized neighbourhood of the City of Toronto. After joining the City of Toronto, various required municipal services were brought to Lytton Park, which further prompted residential development and the rest of the homes in the area were built between 1920 and 1945.

The majority of the houses in Lytton Park that were built from 1890 to 1930, chiefly feature traditional Georgian and Tudor Style homes on large lots that feature lush, well maintained lawns and gardens. Throughout the area there is an abundance of mature trees, which line the streets. In recent years, many homes in the Lytton Park area have been subject to extensive renovations or have been totally rebuilt, thereby transforming the original architecture to an upscale, urban neighbourhood where many professionals take pleasure in calling home. Housing prices in this neighbourhood range from $600,000 to $1,000,000+.

Residents of this area can enjoy the many natural surroundings and recreational benefits of Lytton Park, Otter Creek Park, the Herbert Begg Gardens and the Chatsworth Ravine. Features of Lytton Park include tennis courts, a lawn bowling club and of course, a children’s playground. Otter Creek Park contains more tennis courts and an artificial ice rink in the wintertime. This park also gives access to a nature trail that continues to Sherwood Park near Mount Pleasant Road.

The younger residents of Lytton Park will benefit from some of the best schools (both public and private) in Toronto. Within the boundaries are two schools that provide excellent academic curricula: John Ross Robertson Public School and Havergal College for girls. Two schools that each have an excellent educational standing, Allenby Junior Public School, a French Immersion school, and St. Clement’s Anglican Private School for girls, are located just south of the boundary of Lytton Park. The Glendon College Campus of York University is only minutes away to the east.

With quick access to the TTC and to major transportation routes, downtown Toronto and Highway 401 are only minutes away.

Unique, chic shopping along Yonge Street, Avenue Road, Lawrence Avenue and Eglinton Avenue West are immediately available for this upscale neighbourhood.

Lytton Park is surely one of the most desirable locations to live in the city of Toronto.
